In the aluminum melting process, the primary pollutants include sulfur oxides (SOx) produced by the combustion of oils and coatings, hydrochloric acid (HCl), and hydrofluoric acid (HF) derived from impurities in the metal inputs. Additionally, heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg) can be released during the melting phase due to the presence of alloys and contaminants in the raw materials.
Sorbalite is particularly effective in treating a wide range of pollutants thanks to its unique composition. The hydrated lime in Sorbalite neutralizes acids in the flue gases, converting them into harmless salts, while the activated carbon adsorbs and immobilizes heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), significantly contributing to the reduction of atmospheric contamination.
