NaHCO3 Solvair®

Pre-ground SOLVAir® Sodium Bicarbonate for Glass Factories

During the glass manufacturing process, glassworks use high-temperature furnaces to melt and anneal the materials. This process generates polluting emissions, such as sulfur oxides (SOx) and hydrofluoric acid (HF), which must be effectively treated in flue gas purification processes before being released into the atmosphere.

Solution with Pre Ground SOLVAir® Sodium Bicarbonate

An innovative solution for flue gas purification in glassworks involves the use of pre-ground Solvay SOLVAir® sodium bicarbonate, distributed through a dedicated dosing system. When injected into flue gas treatment systems, sodium bicarbonate reacts with sulfur oxides and acidic compounds present in exhaust gases. This chemical reaction helps neutralize pollutants, resulting in efficient flue gas purification that meets regulatory standards for environmental protection.

Flue Gas Cleaning with Pre-ground Solvay SOLVAir® Sodium Bicarbonate

FAQ

During glass melting, impurities in the raw materials release primary pollutants such as Sulfur Oxides (SOx) and Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) in the form of fumes. These pollutants are harmful to the environment and human health and require specific treatment to mitigate their damaging impact.
Sodium bicarbonate is used in flue gas treatment because it reacts with the pollutants emitted during glass production, which occurs at high temperatures. The reaction between sodium bicarbonate and SOx and HF produces non-hazardous salts, facilitating the effective removal of these pollutants from the exhaust fumes.
Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate both serve to neutralize the acids present in exhaust gases but behave slightly differently. Sodium carbonate is more alkaline, ensuring greater efficacy against all types of acids. Sodium bicarbonate, upon contact with acids, decomposes into CO2, water, and activated sodium carbonate—an even more porous form of sodium carbonate that provides a larger surface area and greater efficiency, especially at lower temperatures.
