Premixed sodium bicarbonate neutralizes the acids present and converts them into safe solid salts, while activated carbon or lignite coke adsorb dangerous metals and other organic compounds, reducing harmful emissions.
Premixed sodium bicarbonate acts as a neutralizing agent, reacting with acids such as HCl and HF present in combustion fumes. During this process, it forms stable solid compounds like NaCl and NaF, which are inert and non-polluting, thereby contributing to the mitigation of environmental impact.
These materials are used for their excellent adsorption capacities, which allow for the effective removal of heavy metals, dioxins, furans, and other organic contaminants present in the combustion fumes of hospital waste.
Magnesian lime proves to be extremely useful in contexts characterized by high levels of acidity in the fumes. Its integration with sodium bicarbonate and activated carbon/lignite coke improves the neutralization of acids and the capture of heavy metals, optimizing the purification process and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Both can be effectively used, but activated carbon offers superior performance thanks to its porous structure, which favors a faster and more complete adsorption of pollutants. Lignite coke can be a more economical solution, especially for applications with relatively low operating temperatures.
Sodium carbonate has higher alkalinity and can be more effective in treating strong acid concentrations. However, sodium bicarbonate, decomposing into CO₂, water, and sodium carbonate, creates porous surfaces that optimize acid neutralization, particularly useful in systems operating at low temperatures.
